Katrinky (blind) feels skittle on bowling outing 2 August 2009
Pictured here - some of our kids on a sensory outing today – the Cradle of Humankind is a great learning experience for any pupil. But for blind, low vision and otherwise-disabled children, they really like to get out and about to experience things first-hand.
Our teachers are going to provide feedback as to how to make the exhibitions even more interactive… listening to a fountain is great, but the blind kids want to immerse their hands in it as well…. We think all schools should put the Maropeng Education Centre on their map of activities for the school year.
We hope to take some 40 children to visit there again in March 2009.

The Johannesburg School for Blind, Low Vision and Multiple Disbility
Children started in January 2003 at 35 Lothbury Avenue, Auckland Park, thanks
to the great kindness of Margaret Hirsch and her husband Allan, who jointly
purchased the building.
The project has been initiated by Children of Fire but will soon be set
up as a separate charity, either as a section 21 company or a registered non
profit organisation. Trustees designate include both the Hirsch's, Lisa
Hutchinson, Lorraine Doyle, Astrid Meyer, Bronwen Jones and Prakash Naidu.
Moray Hathorn of Webber Wentzel Bowens has agreed to assist with the
legal work in establishing a new trust.
