Oliver Twist was a story the children related to.
While Charles Dickens' novel was published in 1838, it still rings true 173 years later. Children of Fire children went to the National Children's Theatre on 21st June 2011 with other pupils from Johannesburg School for Blind, Low Vision and Multiple Disability Children, to watch Oliver Twist. They invited 13 of their friends from Joe Slovo Squatter Camp to go with them. Here are nine of them before and after we gave them some new shirts (and other gifts including bags, jerseys and snacks). The whole group of more than 30 children all ate KFC for lunch, thanks to the kindness of Dr Helene van Rhyn.
Peter Harris, Dorothy Ann Gould and others helped with transport to and from the Theatre. The children attend plays at least four times a year.
