Congolese burns survivor Sunday continues to thrive under the care of Tracey Burns in Cape Town.
He spent Christmas 2012 with her extended family from New Zealand.
He passed Grade 1 though he's struggling a little with reading and writing. He has a tutor to help at aftercare, which he's loving. A class of 35 is big, so now with one on one attention he's happier.
He received a gold medal for judo, and a certificate for numeracy.
He really enjoys school and does judo once a week after school, soccer academy nearly every Saturday and art every Tuesday. His art is beautiful.
He’s very tall for his age and can be very funny sometimes. He has a go at slow drivers regularly! He loves mirrors, either 'fighting' his reflection or watching himself dance. He loves trainers (shoes), the whiter the better. Jeans are another love!
He has regular contact with a Congolese aunt called Crystal who lives in Cape Town.
Sunday has a hamster called Peanut.
Sunday continues to live happily in Cape Town with "Mama Tracey".
He had surgery in late October 2011 to remove the keloid scar on the back of his wrist, caused by careless insertion of a drip.
Patients with a tendency to keloid should have a pressure garment made for the hand/wrist before surgery, to wear immediately after a drip has been removed.
Sunday continues to flourish with the "Mum" Tracey in Cape Town and in May 2011 received a new playmate, a hamster called Peanut.
Sunday had a great 2010. He's remains in the care of our Cape Town representative, Tracey Burns. She says: "He's extremely popular, his teachers adore him, his mates can't get enough, and he's got a fan base at aftercare as well. I'm regularly told how well behaved and polite he is. His extended biological family in Milnerton are always saying 'thank you for making him happy,' They say that he never used to smile."
Sunday visited his maternal aunt Martha in Johannesburg for part of the December 2010 holidays.
Sunday continues at his school in Cape Town but has "too much play in him" and will remain in Grade R for 2011.
His ad hoc fostering placement with Tracey Burns continues to flourish while he visits his maternal aunt in Johannesburg in longer holiday periods.

Sunday continues to live in Cape Town with volunteer Tracey Burns. He is flourishing and turned six years old in October 2010. One of his best friends is Joshua. He had a great birthday party with lots of guests.
Sunday Mukhazi is flourishing in Cape Town under the care of Tracey Burns in 2010. He attends the Golden Grove Primary School in Grade R. He enjoys art and can draw a fairy detailed picture of himself. Sunday likes stories, does reasonably with comprehension activities and likes learning about the theme of each week. He can retell stories. He works on the peg boards and on sorting in pre-Primary numeracy.
Sunday maintains sporadic contact with his maternal aunt in Johannesburg but Children of Fire's Cape Town representative Tracey has become firmly established as the mother figure in his life.
He will be visited by Children of Fire kids Zanele Jeza and Bongani Phakathi in September 2010 when they travel to Cape Town for surgery.
Sunday Mukazi immediately bonded with Tracey Burns on arrival in Cape Town in April 2009. He did not write letters home to his aunt though he did send some to Mama (Bronwen) in Johannesburg. He wanted to draw for Tracey because she was the apple of his eye.

Sunday (4) turned five in October 2009. Here (with red collar) he is at Maitlands Orthopaedic Hospital where he and fellow burns survivor Tavonga (5) had been visiting Tapera Jani (3) who’d just had surgery on one of his burned feet.
Sunday suffered burns in a rebel attack in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and has had keloids treated at the Red Cross Children’s War Memorial Hospital.
Sunday Mukaza turns four on 26th October 2004. He was intentionally burned in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the unrest / civil war / that has plagued that country in recent years.
